The 2024 campaign theme, "VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon Na Ang Oras!" emphasizing the urgency to address this problem. This year campaign marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Anti-Violence Against Woman and their Chlidren Act of 2004 (RA 9262), also known as the Anti-VAWC Act, this law highlights the Philippines commitment to combating human trafficking and exploitation, which are often intertwined with violence against woman and children. The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women is an annual observance in the Philippines that takes place from November 25th to December 10th. It aims to raise awareness about the violence against women and to encourage individuals, organizations, and governments to combat this societal problem and take action to end it.
RA 10364 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2013): This law expanded the scope of RA 9208, strengthening its provisions and adding new definitions and penalties. It broadened the definition of trafficking to include acts of exploitation for purposes such as forced labor, slavery, involuntary servitude, debt bondage, and organ removal. It introduced new provisions to combat online trafficking, strengthen the protection of victims, and enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute trafficking cases. This act underscores the Philippine government's commitment to combatting human trafficking and protecting its citizens, particularly women and children, from exploitation and abuse. RA 11862 represents a significant step forward in the Philippines' fight against human trafficking. It provides a more comprehensive legal framework, enhances penalties for perpetrators, prioritizes victim protection, and acknowledges the role of technology in trafficking. The act's focus on online child sexual abuse and exploitation is particularly crucial given the increasing prevalence of this form of trafficking.
